It’s not often that the world’s most revered and talented makeup artists, hair stylists and nail technicians come together in one city to create a stream of show-stopping beauty looks, which is what makes fashion week so major. And by the looks of things, Autumn winter 19 is off to a strong start with glitter lips and lids at Rodarte, the twisted chignons at Brandon Maxwell and the statement white-streaked hair at Jeremy Scott. GLAMOUR went backstage to call upon the expertise of the pros, and to find out their insider beauty hacks and failsafe tips and tricks…
MOUSSE IS YOUR NBF
According to Wella Professionals Global Creative Director Eugene Souleiman, hair mousse is set for a huge come back.
The pro used the kit-bag essential at every one of his New York fashion shows, but not for the effect you may expect.
“People always think mousse is for volume,” he says. “But it’s the most versatile product out there. I use it mainly for texture and grit – it adds another dimension to the hair when blow-dried into roots. Plus, it dried so much quicker than a gel
Glow, gloss and glitter are the 3 beauty staples you’ll need to recreate next season’s hottest trends fresh from fashion week
Backstage at Dion Lee, where hair was combed back into a loose chignon, every hair stylists was armed with a toothbrush alongside their heat tools and hairspray.
Turns out, the best way to tame those pesky fly-aways is to spray the toothbrush’s bristles with a little hair spray, and gently comb through for perfectly in place, stay-all-day hair.
FAILSAFE MATTE-NOT-FLAT MAKEUP
We all dream of that velvety matte finish, that looks soft-focus and flawless without looking flat. Well, according to international makeup artist Tom Pecheaux, the best way to achieve the coveted look is to press a tissue onto your finished makeup.
“The tissue absorbs all the excess makeup that your skin wasn’t able to,” said Tom, who created the look at Brandon Maxwell. “It just stops it looking dull and gives skin that velvety but still radiant finish.”
SMOOTH, SILKY HAIR
According to Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau, the best way to a great hair day is to actually leave some of your conditioner in after showering – yes really.
“I always leave a little bit of conditioner in, especially in the ends of hair. It really helps to give hair a luxurious-looking finish, and safeguards against any dryness, which is especially important in the winter months.”.
